Rain is expected in April and May to alleviate the water crisis in Nuevo Laredo

The head of the Rio Grande Studies Center, Gustavo Pantoja, indicated that rain is still expected in Nuevo Laredo during April and May, which would help improve water conditions in the region.

He explained that these two months, along with September, are historically considered periods of high rainfall for the city and the Two Laredos area.

“We eagerly await April, May, and September. The region has gone nearly a decade without significant rainfall, although we have managed to avoid reaching critical levels,” he stated.

He indicated that the Amistad Dam, one of the main sources of water for the Rio Grande upstream, is currently at approximately 20 percent of its storage capacity.

Given this situation, Pantoja emphasized the importance of reinforcing water conservation and using only what is necessary to avoid waste.

“We must continue this public policy strategy focused on water conservation, and everyone must do their part,” he emphasized.

He also mentioned that cloud seeding is planned for central and southern Tamaulipas to encourage more rainfall.

He reminded everyone that the water alert level for Nuevo Laredo remains at red, so it is essential to continue with water conservation measures and responsible use of this resource.
