After a meticulous ten-month investigation, agents from the Criminal Investigation Agency, in conjunction with the Coahuila Police, executed an arrest warrant against Verónica “N,” alias “La Vero,” identified as the main leader of a criminal organization involved in illicit activities and human trafficking in the northern region of the state.
The arrest is the result of a coordinated strategy between the State Center for Justice and Empowerment of Women and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, who were able to bring the case to court after identifying the suspect’s complex operational pattern in the municipality of Piedras Negras.
The investigation revealed that the organization operated under a facade of apparent legality to evade law enforcement. The group strategically used several cabins located in the Privada Santa Lucía neighborhood as clandestine meeting places, where the residential camouflage allowed for a constant flow of clients without raising immediate suspicion.
During the raids and searches carried out at these properties, the discovery of minors being held against their will and forced into prostitution with adults was confirmed. This occurred under a system of coercion and violence that has led to Verónica “N” being charged as the alleged perpetrator.
In addition to the cabins, the investigation indicates that the now-detained woman managed a property known as Quinta “El Tornado,” a key location for the criminal organization’s logistics.
This location hosted so-called “after-parties” or clandestine events that began after the closing time in the red-light district. It was at these after-hours events that clients were recruited and the exploitation of the victims was consolidated, taking advantage of environments of lawlessness and drug use to operate with impunity in the early morning hours.
“La Vero’s” criminal record extends beyond Mexican borders, as she faces current charges in the United States directly related to drug trafficking. With the integration of the investigation file by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, the aim is for the detainee to answer not only for the crimes of human trafficking and corruption of minors within the national territory, but also for the federal charges she faces in the neighboring country.
Following her arrest by the Criminal Investigation Agency and the State Police, the woman was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities to determine her legal status.
