One of the most important religious festivals for the municipality of Tlaxcala is Holy Week, and with it, the reenactment of the Stations of the Cross, due to its historical, cultural, and traditional value, has been designated an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State.
For its 2026 edition, authorities anticipate an attendance of more than 100,000 people, solidifying its position as the second most important in the country.
With the participation of reenactment groups and mayordomías (religious brotherhoods) that safeguard the religious images, the organization and development of the liturgy and the theatrical aspects of the reenactment are carried out.
5,000 people participate in the realization of this tradition, which brings together residents of the municipality and visitors from all over the country.
To ensure that these activities take place in an orderly manner and to preserve the safety of attendees, a mobility and support operation will be implemented at strategic points in the municipality, particularly during the days with the highest attendance.
Thus, Holy Week in Chiautempan, in addition to representing a manifestation of faith, is also a space for cultural preservation where religious tradition, community organization, and the artisanal work that distinguishes this municipality converge.
