Once again, Oaxaca is preparing to captivate visitors with its gastronomy and charm them with the creativity of its people. The Santo Domingo Tomaltepec Bread and Leather Goods Expo is back for its 13th edition, a cultural experience you won’t want to miss. Let us tell you why.

This annual fair, organized by the state’s Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), aims to promote the work of local artisans while preserving Oaxacan culture through traditional crafting techniques.

More than just an exhibition, you’ll be able to taste and enjoy a wide variety of flavors and textures of traditional Oaxacan breads, each with the distinctive touch imparted by wood-fired ovens. These include pan de yema (egg yolk bread) in its various sizes and colors, among other typical Oaxacan breads.

And as its name suggests, at the fair you’ll find a variety of leather goods such as bags, wallets, backpacks, belts, and countless other leather items, all embroidered and handcrafted using this ancestral technique.

The event is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the essence of Oaxaca, as you can also sample typical cuisine such as empanadas, bocoles, and the exquisite barbacoa prepared here.

In 2026, the Bread and Leather Goods Fair will be held on Sunday, April 5th, at the Santo Domingo Tomaltepec Municipal Plaza, starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 10:00 p.m.

This year’s event will conclude with a grand dance featuring a brass band, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

This year, the artisans of Santo Domingo hope the fair will be an opportunity for community and camaraderie, so this edition will also include some sporting events.

The municipality of Santo Domingo Tomaltepec is located about 30 minutes from the capital, approximately 20 kilometers away.

To get there by private transport, you can take Federal Highway 190 (heading towards Oaxaca-Isthmus) and, after passing Santa María, take the turnoff that leads to Santo Domingo.

By public transport, you can take the shared taxis (colectivos) that depart from the Central de Abasto (wholesale market) bound for Santo Domingo Tomaltepec.

Oaxaca has become an epicenter of Mexican culture and tradition, so don’t miss this event to immerse yourself in a bit of the Oaxacan essence!
