Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has included a new highway infrastructure project on the Oaxaca-Tuxtepec route in her portfolio of projects, as part of a broader package of investments planned for this year in the state, Oaxaca Governor Salomón Jara Cruz announced on Monday.

According to the governor, the topic was discussed during her visit, where she confirmed the president’s interest in promoting various strategic projects in Oaxaca. Among these, he highlighted not only the highway project but also the strengthening of the healthcare system through the construction and replacement of hospitals in key locations throughout the state.

Regarding healthcare, Jara Cruz announced that construction of an IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) hospital will begin in April, located near Ciudad Salud (Health City). He also indicated that the “Aurelio Valdivieso” Civil Hospital will be replaced by a new medical unit, for which a five-hectare site with an approximate capacity of 80 beds has already been designated.

The governor added that the replacement of the hospital in Huajuapan de León is also planned, and that both projects are nearly 90% complete in their approval processes. He emphasized that these actions aim to guarantee better medical care for the people of Oaxaca, in coordination with the federal government, highlighting the president’s support and commitment to the state’s development.

The governor stated that he also discussed with the president the damage to public schools caused by Hurricane Erick, with the goal of securing the allocation of resources for their repair and rehabilitation, given the delay in the disbursement of the insurance funds intended to cover these damages.
