The Government of the State of Puebla built the road to Paso de Cortés, between the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes. This road, formerly a dirt track, provides access to the Izta-Popo National Park.

It is worth noting that construction began in 2024 on the road connecting San Nicolás de los Ranchos with Amecameca, specifically the Santiago Xalitzintla-Paso de Cortés section.

This road is very important, as it connects Puebla with the State of Mexico and represents an investment of over 27 million pesos.

The main objective of this project is to improve the connectivity of evacuation routes from the Popocatépetl volcano, connecting the neighboring state to the State of Mexico.

Furthermore, it is not only a route for motorized vehicles but will also include a bike path, allowing users to ascend to the summits of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl.

The project is planned to cover an area of almost 20 kilometers.
