The Campeche state government, headed by Layda Sansores San Román of the Morena party, spent 1,815,282 pesos during its participation in the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), held from January 21 to 25, 2026, in Madrid, Spain.

The public funds that the Campeche government used in just eight days—from January 19 to 26—represent almost a quarter (23.7 percent) of the total budget allocated, for example, to the State Commission for the Search for Missing Persons, responsible for addressing the phenomenon of disappearances. In the four and a half years of this administration, the number of missing persons has increased twelvefold, rising from 11 during the period from September 16, 2015, to March 23, 2020, to 130 between September 16, 2021, and March 23, 2026.

In documents obtained by La Razón through a freedom of information request, the state administration indicates that the expenditure was for the purchase of travel tickets, food, lodging for two public servants, transportation, and various materials used during the 2026 Fitur tourism fair.

According to the documents provided by the Transparency Unit, Attached to the Tourism Secretariat of the Executive Branch of the State of Campeche, the lodging expense is the only category for which details were provided, broken down by the number of public servants. In this case, it indicates that there were two, although their names and positions are not mentioned.

The cost for each official, solely for lodging over seven nights, was 26,643 pesos—an average of 3,806 pesos per night per person—although the hotel where they stayed, as well as the type of rooms and amenities they received, are not specified.

In a review conducted by La Razón, the average nightly rate for a three-star hotel in Madrid during the low season ranges from $43 to $93 USD, which, at the current exchange rate, would be between 767 and 1,658 Mexican pesos.

In contrast, a night in a five-star hotel in Madrid costs between $152 and $212, which is between 2,710 and 3,779 Mexican pesos.

The total cost of flights was 77,594 pesos. Of this, 38,872 pesos were for tickets—though the number is not specified—on the Mérida-Mexico City-Paris-Madrid route, with a return trip from Madrid to Mexico City-Cancún.

Meanwhile, the cost of other tickets—also unspecified—was 38,722 pesos, for the Cancún-Philadelphia-Madrid route, with a return trip from Madrid to Mexico City-Cancún.

Tip: On March 3, La Razón reported that Governor Layda Sansores San Román has spent 1.2 million pesos on 150 trips, an average of three every 30 days.

According to data from various airline websites offering flights to Madrid, the cheapest round-trip ticket, with or without layovers, ranges from 15,000 to 19,000 Mexican pesos.

However, the largest expense was not for flights or lodging, but for renting an exhibition space in the Mexico Pavilion. This included a stand with two lounge areas, 80-inch LED screens, and a trade and media agenda, which cost 1,610,000 pesos.

Another reported expense was the purchase of promotional materials such as pens, QR codes, ID badges, pins, and medals, although the quantity was not specified. These items cost 14,589 pesos.

In addition, 8,120 pesos were spent on screen-printed banners, and 6,609 pesos were used to rent traditional Campeche skirts for the state’s cultural presentation.

One additional expenditure by the Campeche government was 2,320 pesos for a sublimated ribbon for the FITUR inauguration.

The total cost of local taxi transportation was 17,758 pesos, although the report does not detail the destinations for each trip. It should be noted that fares varied, ranging from 133 pesos to 1,593 pesos.

The total amount spent on food reached 24,993 pesos, but the report also does not specify the locations or the price of each meal. Furthermore, the cost of each meal varied, ranging from 173 pesos to 2,151 pesos.
