With the goal of offering accommodations through the Airbnb platform, real estate agents will encourage hoteliers to make suites available for this purpose.
Luis Gerardo Reina González, a real estate developer in Carmen, explained that unlike other parts of the country, Carmen does not have listings on Airbnb, so alternative options must be explored.
“One of the options we’re presenting is for hotels to convert one or two of their rooms into suites, which can then be listed on Airbnb for rent.”
He explained that one of the reasons Carmen lacks these types of rooms is that the island is not considered a tourist destination, so visitors only arrive during certain times of the year, such as Carnival, Holy Week, the Sea Festival, and the July Fair, among others.
“Airbnbing hasn’t been considered a viable option on the island for homeowners, who prefer to wait for longer-term rentals of months or years rather than invest in modifications for this platform.”
He stated that the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals will soon meet with the Hotel and Motel Association to promote the platform and encourage these establishments to list their suites on Airbnb.
