With the increase in visitors during the holiday season, the Sonora State Government launched Operation Safe Corridor 2026 on the Sonoyta-Puerto Peñasco highway, one of the main access routes to the tourist destination.

The strategy is led by the State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPC), which deployed three units and eight personnel to conduct continuous patrols in the area, with the goal of providing direct assistance to travelers and reinforcing highway safety.

According to state authorities, this operation aims to prevent accidents, reduce emergency response times, and offer immediate support to vacationers during a period characterized by high traffic volume, primarily from tourists from the United States.

The personnel participate in traffic guidance, basic pre-hospital care, and assistance with minor mechanical failures, in addition to coordinating with other security and emergency response agencies to address any eventuality.

This time of year represents one of the peak tourist seasons in Puerto Peñasco, increasing vehicular traffic in this border region. In recent years, authorities have reinforced these operations due to the increase in visitors and the need to maintain safe road conditions.

With Operation Safe Corridor, the Sonora State Government seeks to address emergencies and strengthen a culture of prevention among drivers and visitors during the most important season for the local economy.
