The 2026 Easter holidays begin this weekend, and Tampico municipal authorities expect 600,000 visitors to the port’s attractions during this vacation period.

Mayor Mónica Villarreal Anaya stated that during the 2025 Easter holiday period, they received “567,000 visitors, and we want to reach 600,000 (in 2026). We have everything perfectly planned to welcome those who wish to visit us.”

She confirmed that the Tampico April Festival 2026 will be inaugurated this Thursday, March 26th. This series of activities drew 180,000 visitors last year, so they expect an increase in attendance this year as well.

In Tampico, there are places that tourists practically have to visit, such as the Historic Center, the Carpintero Lagoon promenade, the Chairel Lagoon tours, the House of Nature, and other spots in the port city.

The mayor emphasized that for visitors who decide to visit Tampico, whether from the region, Tamaulipas, or other parts of the country, “there are a series of routes such as the museum route, the gastronomic route, the nighttime Juancho route, and the birdwatching route. These are new routes that give those who have visited us in previous years the opportunity to explore other areas of our municipality.”

It is expected that tourism numbers will be better than in previous years because several factors support this, including favorable weather conditions, safety, and the attractions the port city offers.

Villarreal Anaya emphasized that “our tourism and Holy Week operation begins tomorrow, with all municipal agencies working together to ensure an orderly Tampico with excellent traffic flow and, of course, safety.”

The municipal authority stressed that they have the support of the state government in security matters, as security reinforcements are expected, and patrols were sent just last week.

“Ten more units arrived three weeks ago to reinforce this area and to continue maintaining this perception of security, which benefits us greatly. We will continue to offer everything necessary so that visitors can travel safely and in an orderly manner,” he reported.
