The CJNG threat is spreading in Latin America: these countries have detected its presence.

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) is one of the most powerful organized crime groups in the world and continues to expand throughout Latin America. It is considered to have a strong presence not only in Argentina, but also in other countries such as Peru, Ecuador, and others.

Javier Milei, the president of Argentina, has already declared the CJNG an “entity linked to acts of terrorism,” as the United States did years ago, in order to apply financial sanctions and operational restrictions, limiting the cartel’s activities within the country.

This followed confirmation from the Argentine Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of National Security, the Ministry of Justice, and the Intelligence Secretariat that the CJNG is carrying out illicit activities and has links within the country to other similar organizations.

But Argentina is not the only country that has raised alarms about the presence of the four-letter cartel; Peru is one of the countries where the organization’s expansion is also considered to be significant.

Pedro Yaranga, a security expert, points out that large drug shipments have been arriving in Peru, along with the presence of hitmen and emissaries, who have even recorded videos demonstrating their presence in the country.

Regarding drugs, Peru could be one of the countries on the CJNG’s route, as at least one of the shipments intercepted by Peruvian authorities was destined for the United States, originating in Ecuador, where the cartel also has a strong presence.

Another reason the cartel has arrived in Peru is illegal mining, where it is believed there are emissaries with a particular interest in trafficking mercury to illegally process gold. They may even have already established links with family clans that control the Huánuco and Ucayali border.

In the case of Ecuador, the ‘Mencho’ cartel is linked to groups like Los Tiguerones, considered one of the most dangerous groups in the country and key to cocaine trafficking, according to InSight Crime.

That’s not all; the U.S. State Department also noted that the CJNG has a presence in Australia, China, and Southeast Asia.

According to authorities, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel has a presence in almost all of Mexico—primarily in 27 states—and has contacts throughout the Americas and overseas, where it is already expanding. It has also been traced to Spain and the Netherlands, where a network facilitating drug distribution was located.
