During Holy Saturday, members of the Aquatic Rescue Squad rescued 22 people who were struggling to get out of the water, as a result of nine interventions carried out in different beach areas of Mazatlán.
The lifeguard commander, Gustavo Espinoza, reported that among those rescued were 11 minors, who, like the rest of the swimmers, were simply exhausted after spending several minutes trying to get themselves out of rip currents.
He explained that the rescue maneuvers were carried out primarily by swimming and using a bucket, while in a couple of multiple rescues, the support of jet skis was necessary to expedite the rescue and transport to shore.
Regarding the presence of burn victims, the personnel deployed on the beaches continued to provide basic medical care. Therefore, the authorities reiterated their call to the public to respect the flag signals and locate safe areas before entering the water, in order to prevent incidents.
That same Saturday, Mazatlán Fire Chief Saúl Robles confirmed that more than 80 people had been treated for stings from stinging insects since the start of the Holy Week security operation, so the alert remains in place for all rescue agencies.
