Campeche, April 6, 2026 – Taxi drivers in Campeche warned of a sharp drop in demand for their service due to the growth of digital platforms like InDrive, which they claim operate without regulation and with lower fares.
The general secretary of the United Front of Taxi Drivers (FUTV), Teresita Vivas Cornelio, stated that the situation has reduced traditional taxi activity by up to 60%, directly impacting drivers’ income.
According to the leader, there are currently around 300 taxis operating through unlicensed apps, which they consider unfair competition.
She explained that income has fallen drastically: from earning around 500 pesos a day, they now barely make between 200 and 250, making it difficult to cover basic expenses and vehicle maintenance.
He warned that the situation could worsen during Holy Week due to the lower surge pricing offered by ride-hailing platforms, although he noted that this system doesn’t entirely benefit drivers either.
Finally, he indicated that traditional ride-hailing services remain primarily used by senior citizens and people who don’t use mobile apps, further limiting their market.
