Congressman Sergio Guluarte Ceseña, from the Morena party, presented a bill to institutionalize the Copa Legisladores fishing tournament, which was held for the first time last year in the port of La Paz, so that it can be held annually in different municipalities.
“Among the various initiatives we have been presenting is one for the fishing tournament, so that this event is officially established, that Congress provides support, and that a budget is allocated to support the Copa Legisladores. The intention is to continue promoting it year after year and to ensure that this tournament, which originated in Congress and benefits a cause that benefits sectors in need, is not lost.”
He stated that this year’s tournament will be held on August 9th and 10th in the municipality of Los Cabos as part of the FONMAR (Fund for the Protection of Marine Resources) series. They will be working on the registration process, the species to be caught, and the prize amount, all of which will be specified in the official announcement.
He commented that the La Paz tournament was a success due to high participation, but expectations for the Los Cabos tournament are much higher precisely because of that precedent and because the southern municipality has a long tradition of sport fishing, and many people are sure to get involved.
Regarding the allocation of the funds generated by this tournament in Los Cabos, he stated that it is not yet decided, but the idea is that the decision will rest with the municipalities.
The Copa Legisladores tournament in La Paz featured 53 teams, and the funds generated benefited the Shelter for Abused Women and the Cet del Mar 04 (Center for Technical and Vocational Training 04).
