The head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jesús Esteva, announced this Thursday that the Nichupté Bridge is nearing completion in Cancún.

The project is considered strategic for improving traffic flow to the hotel zone, one of the areas with the highest traffic volume in the Mexican Caribbean.

During the President’s daily press conference this Thursday, Esteva indicated that, following the opening of the Nichupté Bridge, a new road project will begin: the construction of the Kukulcán Bridge.

This project is a traffic interchange that forms part of the complementary works for the Nichupté Bridge.

The project consists of “a 770-meter-long overpass (including access ramps at the beginning and end) that will start with a four-lane section, each lane 3.20 meters wide, with a central median, extending to a width of 28.4 meters,” according to the summary of the Environmental Impact Statement.

The Nichupté Bridge has been one of the most important infrastructure projects in Quintana Roo, connecting key points in the city.

With its opening, travel times are expected to decrease, improving the experience for both residents and tourists.
