With an investment of 43.6 million pesos, Mayor Estefanía Mercado inaugurated the first phase of the rehabilitation of Avenida 10 Norte, one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
The project is part of a strategy to improve urban mobility and road safety, responding to citizen demands.
“We are delivering a project that addresses a real need of the people,” the mayor stated during the inauguration ceremony.
The project includes the comprehensive rehabilitation of the corridor, with improvements such as the reconstruction and widening of sidewalks, safe pedestrian crossings, universal accessibility, and the addition of a two-way bike lane.
According to municipal authorities, the road directly benefits more than 60,000 people who use it daily, with an indirect impact on more than 333,000 residents by improving connectivity in the area.
“We want a city that is walkable, not just a city that is driven through,” Estefanía Mercado affirmed.
In addition to paving, the work included modernizing street lighting, installing new road signs, and improving medians.
10th Avenue North connects residential, commercial, and service areas, so its rehabilitation was considered a priority within the municipal public works program.
Local authorities indicated that this project is part of a broader strategy to reclaim public spaces and improve mobility in the city.
The mayor emphasized that these projects are being developed in coordination with the state government and in line with the urban development policy promoted by Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum.
“It’s a vision that puts people first and seeks to improve their quality of life,” she concluded.
