New complaint against FIRT Olmeca for abuse of authority against young people

A new alleged abuse of authority by members of the Olmeca Interinstitutional Tactical Reaction Force (FIRT) was reported to Telereportaje.

Parents and relatives of the young men Rodrigo, Brian Lorenzo, Luis Gerardo, and Oswaldo, arrested last Thursday on Julián Sánchez Street in the José María Pino Suárez neighborhood, better known as Tierra Colorada, denied that they are drug dealers, as authorities claimed in the official statement.

Imelda Guadalupe Cornelio Arévalo, the mother of one of the detainees, accused FIRT Olmeca officers of entering two homes without a search warrant and taking three young men, who are also accused of carrying weapons.

“They broke into the house, dragged them out, and entered the residence without any warrant to remove anyone from the house. Now they’ve taken them away, and they’re accusing them of a crime they didn’t commit, because when they took them, they didn’t find anything on them, no illicit substances, nothing. And now they’re accusing them of drug dealing, possession of drugs, possession of weapons; I mean, they’re framing them for many crimes, and no, they weren’t carrying anything because the boys aren’t involved in anything illegal,” he declared.

He added that the fourth young man was detained aggressively as he returned from shopping at a grocery store near his home.

“My son was inside his house, even lying down. They took the other young man out too; he was in the yard. The other young man was coming from the Sánchez supermarket, and they grabbed him right there. The patrol car fired at them, and when they fired, the officer accidentally shot his partner in the leg, which is why they say there was a shot. In fact, the man lives at the house, he and his brothers-in-law, and they never showed them any warrant to enter or anything like that. And they beat him, they beat him. They were suffocating the young men with a bag and told them they were going to kill them, using foul language and all sorts of threats,” he added.

For his part, Mr. Verulfo Martínez Encarnación commented that he was beaten by members of the FIRT Olmeca, who demanded that he “hand over a weapon,” and that he and his entire family were threatened with death.

“When I told him, ‘Yes, he’s my son,’ he said, ‘He’s involved in this, hand over what he brought.’ I said, ‘But what? He didn’t bring anything.’ He said, ‘Hand over the bag.’ ‘But what bag? I don’t have anything!’ And that’s when they grabbed me, handcuffed me, sat me down, and hit me twice. They threatened me, saying, ‘Shut up, please, because if you don’t, we’re going to come back here and your family will be wiped out, and you’ll be the first. And right now,’ he said, ‘look, right now, since you’re involved here, this has already ruined everything for you, because this place is going to be invaded, this house, and you’re going to rot in jail too.’ And… they wanted me to force them to hand over a gun and the bag… a bag, well, but I don’t know what bag you’re talking about,” he recounted.

He stated that, in addition to the threats and beatings, they also took some personal belongings and a motorcycle that was parked outside his home.

“And they took my cell phone, which they say is a decent phone. Why did they grab my phone from the window? They took my brother’s too; they’re not good phones. That one is for my work, because I work. And they took a motorcycle from inside and another one they grabbed outside that wasn’t being driven. They took that one too. Why did they take it if it wasn’t being driven?” he said.

Furthermore, the complainants indicated that it was 24 hours after this arbitrary act that they were able to speak briefly with the young men, who told them that they had some bruised ribs from the beatings, and one even had a dislocated arm. They don’t know if they received medical attention.
