The Government of Sonora, through the Ministry of Education and Culture (SEC) and the Sonoran Institute of Culture (ISC), will present a commemorative program for International Dance Day 2026, under the theme “Dance Until Forms Are Erased.” The activities will take place from April 24 to May 3 in Hermosillo, aiming to offer an inclusive platform that showcases diverse dance genres.
The program includes performances of classical, folk, contemporary, K-pop, and voguing dance. Venues include the Teatro de la Ciudad (City Theater), the Musas (Sonora Museum of Art), and the Plaza Bicentenario. Performances will be free, and some events will have a reduced admission fee.
Highlights of the program include the participation of the Sonora Philharmonic Orchestra and the En Avant classical dance academy with the ballet Peter and the Wolf, as well as the presentation of NorteArte, by Manuel Ballesteros, which celebrates its 300th performance. Additionally, workshops and training sessions led by specialists will be offered, including voguing sessions taught by Annia Ninja, originally from Mexico City, as well as artistic expressions that promote the inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community.
As part of the academic collaboration, the traveling performance “Disertación” will be presented by eighth-semester students of the Bachelor of Performing Arts program at the University of Sonora. The performances will take place at locations such as the Government Center and Madero Park, under the direction of Professor Emmanuel Pacheco.
We invite the community to enjoy this program, which aims to celebrate dance in its many facets, promote understanding of this art form, and provide a space for audiences of all ages to appreciate the diversity of styles and traditions that enrich the state’s cultural offerings.
