As part of the Mexican government’s strategy, spearheaded by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to guarantee the human right to water, particularly in water-scarce regions, the National Water Commission (Conagua) is moving forward with the construction of the El Novillo Dam, which will benefit more than 250,000 residents of the municipality of La Paz, Baja California Sur.
This hydraulic infrastructure project, for which more than 2.4 billion pesos (MXN) will be allocated, will be strategic, as it will strengthen the supply of drinking water in this emblematic municipality of Baja California Sur, improving water conditions in the most vulnerable areas and addressing a long-standing need for sufficient and high-quality water.
Furthermore, this project will not only meet the current and future drinking water demand of the population, but also that of the state’s social and productive sectors, thus strengthening the region’s water security.
The dam project includes the construction of the reservoir, a water treatment plant, and an aqueduct that will guarantee an efficient, continuous, and high-quality water supply.
With these actions, the Government of Mexico is advancing in fulfilling its commitment to develop, in coordination with states and municipalities, projects that contribute to strengthening the human right to water, especially in the most vulnerable regions in terms of water scarcity.
