Less than 48 hours after the government of Salomón Jara Cruz presented the “Pact for Peace in Juchitán de Zaragoza” plan, with the clear objective of addressing the root causes of violence, reclaiming public spaces, and strengthening citizen trust in the government, three young men were killed in an armed attack. Among the victims was the nephew of the Secretary of Government, Jesús Romero López.

The Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office confirmed that in the armed attack carried out this Saturday on David López Nelio Street and Francisco Toledo Avenue in the municipality of Juchitán de Zaragoza, Héctor J. S. M., 20 years old, and Erick C. M., 24 years old, were killed, while David López Valdivieso died at the “Macedonio Benítez Fuentes” General Hospital from gunshot wounds.

Governor Salomón Jara Cruz confirmed the murder of David López Valdivieso with a statement posted on his Twitter account, @salomonj: “I deeply regret the passing of David López Valdivieso, son of the Undersecretary of Political Development of the Government Secretariat, Angélico López Cortés. I express my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones for this irreparable loss. I stand with you in respect and solidarity.”

Earlier, he posted: “We strongly condemn the armed incident that occurred today in Juchitán de Zaragoza, in which, tragically, three people lost their lives. Juchitán is a land of good men and women. What happened today demands that we redouble our efforts, act decisively, and with the full force of the State. There is no room to let our guard down. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and reiterate that they are not alone; they will have our full support.

The State Attorney General’s Office is already conducting the corresponding investigations, with evidence secured and ongoing lines of inquiry. The State Government reiterates that there will be no impunity and that we will continue working in a coordinated manner to find those responsible. For Juchitán, not one step back. Peace is built with determination, with justice, and with firm actions in defense of our people,” he emphasized.

Earlier, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that, as a result of the intervention of the High-Impact Command, a ministerial investigation was launched following an armed incident that occurred this Saturday in the municipality of Juchitán de Zaragoza, in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region.

The institution’s priority was focused on processing the crime scene, located at the intersection of David López Nelio Street and Francisco Toledo Avenue.

At this location, forensic experts and agents from the State Investigation Agency (AEI) collected ballistic evidence consisting of spent shell casings and bullets.

A red motorcycle taxi was also seized, a key piece of evidence that has allowed investigators to establish solid lines of inquiry to locate the assailants.

It’s worth recalling that just on April 15, Governor Salomón Jara presented the “Pact for Peace in Juchitán de Zaragoza” as a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of violence, reclaim public spaces, and strengthen citizen trust.

At that event, the Morena party member affirmed that “we will act decisively and without hesitation against those who break the law; the fight against crime will be head-on, there will be neither tolerance nor impunity; our government will be neither negligent nor complacent.”

Less than three days later, another armed attack was perpetrated in that municipality, considered the most dangerous in Oaxaca and the fifth with the most intentional homicides in the country.
