New details continue to emerge in the case of Carolina Flores Gómez’s murder, this time from her mother, who recounted how she learned of the crime and what her son-in-law told her in the hours that followed.
Reyna Gómez Molina said the news came to her abruptly, through a call from her son-in-law, Alejandro Sánchez, on April 16, the day after the attack in Mexico City.
According to her testimony, shared in an interview with Univision, the man informed her that her daughter had died and that her own mother was responsible. “He told me she was dead. I started screaming like crazy… I kept saying, ‘Tell me it’s my daughter speaking,’ and he replied, ‘No, ma’am… my mother shot her,’” she recounted.
According to the victim’s mother, Alejandro explained that he had delayed reporting the incident because he was prioritizing the care of the couple’s eight-month-old baby.

This point has raised questions. Gómez Molina stated that she directly asked him if her daughter remained at the scene while he was tending to the infant. “I said to him, ‘Was Caro lying there?’… and he replied, ‘Are you serious?’” she recounted.
She also revealed that her son-in-law had recorded videos with instructions on feeding the baby, in case the child was taken into state custody if he faced legal consequences.
Regarding the relationship between her daughter and the main suspect, identified as Erika María Herrera, Carolina’s mother indicated that she was unaware of any serious conflicts.
According to her account, the relationship was limited to normal disagreements between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, with no signs of prior violence that would have foreshadowed a fatal outcome.
The case is being investigated under the femicide protocol by the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office, which considers the victim’s mother-in-law, currently a fugitive, to be the prime suspect.
Authorities continue to gather evidence to clarify what happened inside the apartment, while the mother’s testimony is considered a key piece of evidence in reconstructing the hours following the crime.
