Located in northwestern Mexico, the state of Durango, with its more than 123,000 square kilometers, boasts a significant geographical diversity that has earned it the opportunity to become, starting in 2026, the world epicenter of mountain biking thanks to the Durango Titan Desert Mexico race.

According to its organizers, this is the third edition held in the Americas, and Durango was chosen for its contrasting landscapes, including desert, mountains, forests, and canyons; all ideal for this international competition.

Pako Peynado, a Durango cyclist with mountain biking experience, has been invited to participate in the route, as these are areas where he regularly rides and trains.

Originating in Morocco more than two decades ago, the main challenge of the Titan Desert is self-imposed. Amidst natural landscapes, each cyclist completes their own route over four days, with the opportunity to tackle four intense and demanding stages.

The competition director, Jesús García, invited Pako Peynado, whose experience in mountainous areas allows him to assist in route planning, all while ensuring the safety of the competitors. “The routes are practically set; we just need the organizers to approve them,” says the Durango cyclist, who is proud to share these routes he has been riding for many years with the world.

Durango is known as the land of cinema, a title earned after more than 200 films shot in Durango territory. These productions have taken advantage of the natural scenery to bring to life stories of the Old West, some vestiges of which can still be seen in the town of Chupaderos, just 14 kilometers away, a journey that takes about 25 minutes from the capital, and which is complemented by the Old West Walk.
