A special event was held by the municipal government as part of its responsible pet ownership and overpopulation control program, assisting a resident who keeps 26 cats at her home. The event utilized the mobile sterilization unit of the Department of Ecology and Environment.
The department highlighted this initiative, stating that, as part of its commitment to animal welfare and public health, they visited the resident’s home in the Quinta Chapalita neighborhood.
The event took place on Privada del Gallito street, where pets belonging to other residents were also included, adding one more cat and two more dogs, for a total of 29 sterilizations performed free of charge.
The Department of Ecology also responded to a report of alleged animal abuse, which apparently originated on social media.
The department indicated that, following the report of violence against a cat, inspectors visited the residence to verify the feline’s condition, but were unable to substantiate the claim.
“Following up on the report, inspection personnel went to the indicated address to conduct the corresponding verification. During the visit, it was confirmed that the dog mentioned in the complaint, which allegedly harmed the cat, was not found at the location. Furthermore, it was observed that the cat appeared to be alive and in good health, with no visible signs of serious harm at the time of the inspection,” the official statement reads.
The Department of Ecology and Environment emphasized that these actions are part of the ongoing strategies promoted by the city council to encourage responsible pet ownership and reduce overpopulation, primarily of cats, contributing to improving the living conditions of animals and preventing health risks in communities.
What happens when animal abuse is reported at a residence?
When a complaint of animal abuse is filed, the Department of Ecology sends inspectors to investigate the case and, as part of the administrative procedure, a summons is issued to the person responsible for the residence, requiring them to appear at the Ecology offices to clarify the situation.
