During epidemiological week 15, from April 12 to 18, 2026, Veracruz registered its first confirmed dengue-related death of the year, according to the report from the Federal Ministry of Health.
The report indicates that, nationwide, three dengue-related deaths have been confirmed so far this year, one of which occurred in Veracruz. Additionally, two more deaths are under investigation and have not yet been confirmed, while six others have been ruled out by health authorities.
Regarding infections, Veracruz remains among the states with the highest number of cases in the country. The report details that the state has accumulated:
243 confirmed cases
2,012 probable cases
467 estimated cases
These numbers place Veracruz among the five states with the most confirmed dengue cases in Mexico, along with Sonora, Tabasco, Sinaloa, and Baja California Sur.
Nationally, the report indicates that 1,615 confirmed cases of dengue have been registered in 2026, a lower figure compared to the same period in 2025, when 2,908 cases were recorded.
Infections could rise further.
Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which breeds primarily in stagnant water. Health authorities have warned that with the increase in temperatures and rainfall expected in the coming months, the risk of infection could increase.
Among the most common symptoms are high fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, general malaise, and, in severe cases, bleeding or complications that can be fatal.
Given this situation, the public is advised to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds around their homes, such as containers with standing water, tires, and buckets, as well as to use insect repellent and seek medical attention for any symptoms.
