Influencer Maza Clan was at the center of one of the most controversial moments so far in the broadcast of the reality show La Mansión VIP, after the production team played a message allegedly sent by a member of the Sinaloa Cartel, linked to the Los Chapitos organization.
According to the video of the moment, which has gone viral on social media, Alan Alapizco, Maza Clan’s real name, was in the living room with some of his housemates when the following message came over the loudspeaker:
“Message for Maza Clan: Mazaclan, greetings from Mazatlán, from your friend 40. You have a great friend here, and keep your spirits up,” the message read.
When the influencer heard the message, his reaction was quite noticeable; his shock was evident as his eyes widened. He then responded to the greeting: “Cheer up, man, at your service. Blessings. Long live Mazatlán, Sinaloa, and all of Sinaloa,” he said to the cameras.
Who is El 40?
Víctor Manuel Barraza Pablos, alias El 40, was born on July 17, 1990, in Culiacán and is identified by the U.S. Treasury Department as the plaza boss for Los Chapitos in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. He was sanctioned on June 9, 2025, for his role in a drug trafficking, money laundering, murder, kidnapping, and extortion ring.
He is linked to the operation of fentanyl labs and a network of front companies used to launder illicit funds in Mazatlán and other areas of Sinaloa. In 2021, he was arrested in Cancún, although there are no clear reports of a conviction. He is said to be the son of Víctor Manuel Barraza Rivera (“El Canas”), a historical figure in the drug trade in the region.
In September 2024, when the internal war between Los Chapitos and La Mayiza began, Mazatlán experienced criminal propaganda campaigns and clashes between factions, with his name appearing on flyers accusing him of working with Los Chapitos.
On April 21, 2025, El 40’s name resurfaced after the seizure of nearly three thousand explosive devices in Concordia, Sinaloa. According to journalist Luis Chaparro on the program Pie de Nota, he was identified as one of the operators responsible for that arsenal.
The criminal organization under his command includes operators such as José Raúl Núñez Ríos (“El Lic”), who allegedly built a network of companies to launder drug money. Other members identified by authorities include Genaro Aarón Pérez Avendaño (“El Chamaco”), leader of a group of young hitmen known as “La Chamakera”; José de Jesús Monzón Velázquez (“El Piolín”), Carlos Gabriel Reynoso García (“El Pollo”), Jorge Arturo González Sarmiento (“El Crema”), and Rogelio Reynoso García (“El Gato”) are currently in prison.
Alan Alapizco, known as Maza Clan, is a content creator originally from Sinaloa. He has established himself on social media thanks to his relaxed and humorous style, focused on everyday life in northern Mexico. His digital community grew first on TikTok and YouTube, where he shares videos about everyday situations, jokes, and activities typical of Sinaloan culture.
On Instagram, Maza Clan has 871,000 followers, while on TikTok, his main platform, he has 1.1 million followers with 15.4 million likes.
Before entering La Mansión VIP, Maza Clan already had a strong presence on social media and a public narrative of overcoming adversity.
Both inside and outside the reality show, he has received support from prominent figures in the regional Mexican music scene, such as Lenin Ramírez, Virlán García, El Komander, Erick Aragón, Sergio Sánchez, and Eduin Caz, who have interacted with him and expressed their support through social media.
His participation in La Mansión VIP has placed him among the most talked-about contestants, both for his reactions and comments and for impromptu moments that have gone viral on digital platforms.
