The state of Puebla and the municipality of Zacatlán were honored at the 2026 “Best of Mexico” awards, while Cuetzalan was a finalist in one of the categories.
This recognition came from México Desconocido, an Arts and Culture magazine, which held a gala to celebrate the 13 best of national tourism.
Puebla won in the category of “Best State to Enjoy Regional and Contemporary Cuisine,” beating out Oaxaca and Michoacán, which were the finalists.
The Puebla Tourism Secretariat highlighted that this achievement showcases gastronomy as an experience that inspires pride and attracts visitors.
Other states in the competition included Yucatán, Baja California, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, Mexico City, Jalisco, and Hidalgo.
Meanwhile, Zacatlán was recognized as the best Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) for a wedding, thanks to its landscapes, charm, and traditions.
The municipal government highlighted that the district demonstrated the talent, dedication, and passion of the sector comprised of planners, photographers, florists, and caterers.
The award was received by Mayor Beatriz Sánchez, who thanked everyone for making the unforgettable moments possible.
Jalisco and Quintana Roo were finalists for best wedding destinations.
In Puebla, Zacatlán was recognized as one of the Best of Mexico 2026.
Furthermore, Cuetzalan was among the top three Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) for experiencing nature adventures. It shared this distinction with Mineral del Chico in Hidalgo and Valle de Bravo in the State of Mexico, the latter taking first place.
Finally, regarding the awards for Innovation in Mexican Tourism Products, the state was recognized in the Gastronomic Tourism category.
This was achieved through the Surco Cocina de Sierra y Montaña (Southern Mountain Cuisine) Gastronomic Tourism initiative. It is a rustic restaurant located in Tlatlauquitepec, recognized for its creative cuisine based on local ingredients.
