Puebla was recognized as the best state to enjoy its regional and contemporary cuisine at the 2026 Best of Mexico Awards, organized by México Desconocido magazine during the Tianguis Turístico (Tourism Fair) held in Acapulco. Of the six categories in which it was nominated, the state took home two awards.
The second award went to Zacatlán, named Best Magical Town for a wedding.
In addition, the Surco Cocina de Sierra y Montaña restaurant, located in Tlatlauquitepec, received an award for Innovation in Mexican Tourism Products in the Gastronomic Tourism category.
The distinction awarded to the state highlights the combination of its culinary heritage and the contemporary evolution of its cuisine.
Dishes such as mole poblano, chiles en nogada, and cemitas remain hallmarks of an identity that now also incorporates new offerings with international appeal.
The award solidifies Puebla’s position as one of the country’s most important gastronomic destinations, where cuisine serves both as a tourist attraction and as an expression of history, tradition, and cultural diversity.
State authorities indicated that the award strengthens the state’s standing as a top-tier destination.
At the same event, Puebla was awarded the honor of hosting the 51st edition of the Tianguis Turístico (Tourism Fair) in 2027, with a focus on community-based tourism.
The event will bring together representatives from all 32 Mexican states and approximately 40 international destinations.
The 2027 event will take place in April and will include the participation of the state’s Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns).
The Acapulco edition saw a 45 percent increase in business appointments compared to the previous year, according to the Federal Ministry of Tourism.
Puebla ranks as the fourth most visited destination in Mexico and the second inland destination, making the 2027 Tourism Fair a strategic opportunity to further showcase its cultural, gastronomic, and nature tourism offerings to national and international buyers. (LV)
