The Governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, is under intense public scrutiny after the U.S. Department of Justice launched an investigation into his possible ties to organized crime, specifically the Sinaloa Cartel.
However, he is not the only one under investigation. Several other figures linked to the “Fourth Transformation” (a reference to the current administration) are also being investigated, including: Rubén Rocha Moya, Enrique Inzunza Cázarez, Enrique Díaz Vega, Dámaso Castro Zaavedra, Marco Antonio Almanza Avilés, Alberto Jorge Contreras Núñez, Gerardo Mérida Sánchez, José Antonio Dionisio Hipólito, Juan de Dios Gámez Mendívil, and Juan Valenzuela Millán. A new name has also been added to the list: Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the former president of Mexico.
A video resurfaced on social media, recalling events from August and September 2024, when then-President Andrés Manuel López Obrador defended the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya. Amid the controversy surrounding the capture of Ismael Zambada García, the president acknowledged the governor’s actions and, at the same time, pointed to the United States as a factor influencing the escalation of violence in the state.
The issue gained even more prominence when a letter attributed to Zambada began circulating, in which he claimed to have been kidnapped en route to a supposed meeting with Rocha Moya and the murdered politician Héctor Melesio Cuén. Faced with this situation, López Obrador opted for prudence, urging caution and suggesting waiting for the official investigation by the Attorney General’s Office, while insisting that the situation in Sinaloa remained under control.
Following the start of the investigation and the release of social media videos in which Andrés Manuel López Obrador “defends” Rubén Rocha, a debate has begun on social media about what will happen to the former Mexican president. According to information from Simón Levy, he could soon be facing an investigation:
I can confirm that the criminal charges against Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the United States will soon be made official. He faces five federal charges. Ovidio Guzmán and his brothers, as well as Nicolás Maduro himself, have already been involved in the confession process.
At the moment, nothing has been confirmed by U.S. authorities, but according to Simón Levy, a new investigation against AMLO could be launched in the coming days.
