One person died and 11 others were located after being missing for more than 24 hours on the San Martín volcano, in the municipality of San Andrés Tuxtla, Veracruz state.

On May 2, 22 people climbed the mountain to work on the volcano, but due to the geographical and weather conditions, only 10 were able to descend on their own.

Following the report of their disappearance, municipal and state authorities launched a search operation that continued until May 3 and finally yielded results.

Municipal authorities confirmed the death of one person, who, according to available information, had suffered a severe fall and injured himself with a machete.

The mayor, Rafa Fararoni Magaña, confirmed the location of the missing person and indicated that the descent from the mountain has begun.

“I can confirm that all the people stranded on the mountain have been found and are now descending. Sadly, one person lost their life. We are prepared with medical care for everyone,” he stated on his social media.

More than 40 personnel from various agencies, including municipal and state public safety and Civil Protection, participated in the search operation.
