In addition to maintaining a steady increase in air passengers, the municipality of La Paz has also managed to double the cost of a hotel room in the last six years, according to information provided by Agustín Olachea, president of the Hotel and Tourism Business Association (Emprhotur).

The hotelier explained that in 2020, the average room rate was around 2,300 pesos, while currently it reaches 4,640 pesos. This means that in six years, the cost of a hotel room in La Paz has increased by 101.7 percent.

The business sector and authorities from the Ministry of Tourism and Economy (SETUE) emphasize that, in this context, the destination is also reporting an increase in overall tourist arrivals. going from reporting around 500,000 travelers in 2019 to just over 1.2 million in 2025.

The latest figures from the La Paz Tourism Trust (FITUPAZ) indicate that the destination has 215 hotels, representing a 76 percent increase compared to 2019.

Likewise, La Paz has already reached 5,236 hotel rooms throughout the municipality, marking a 50 percent increase in the number of rooms or hotel keys in six years.

Agustín Olachea stated that this indicator is important because it explains the extent of the economic impact the destination receives.

“Furthermore, tourists increasingly value what the destination offers and are willing to pay better rates. La Paz should continue with the same growth that has proven successful in markets where the destination offers low population density, a warm atmosphere, and a well-organized community,” he commented.

The head of Emprhotur emphasized that a global trend continues where tourism is no longer synonymous with the mass construction of hotels. He stressed that one of La Paz’s advantages is its orderly growth, low density, and active community involvement.

“I believe we are on the right track, and if we continue to grow with this dynamic, we will have a tourist destination for many more generations,” he said.

“The economic benefits generated by this industry of happiness, which is tourism, improve the quality of life in the municipality of La Paz,” he insisted.
