The Secretary of Tourism for Chihuahua, Edibray Gómez Gallegos, reported that the state agency is maintaining close coordination with various airlines to establish new air routes that will strengthen the state’s connectivity with important national and international destinations such as Mexico City, Monterrey, Querétaro, El Paso, and Los Angeles.
The official explained that they are currently finalizing various technical and operational details with the airlines, with the goal of having these new connections operational within a few months. This will expand travel options for both tourists and business travelers.
“We are working with several airlines, including Mexicana de Aviación, Aeroméxico, TAR Aerolíneas, Viva Aerobus, and Volaris, on these new routes, which will begin in the second half of the year,” Gómez Gallegos stated.
In this regard, he highlighted that one of the projects showing the most progress is the air connection between Chihuahua and the Felipe Ángeles International Airport, operated by Mexicana de Aviación. This will allow passengers to connect to other national and international destinations from that airport.
He explained that the intention is to facilitate connectivity for travelers, whether by making a direct connection at AIFA (Felipe Ángeles International Airport) or even continuing to their final destination without having to disembark, depending on the arrangements made with the participating airlines.
“This week we will be signing these agreements with some airlines, and as soon as we can officially announce them, we will do so jointly with the companies,” commented the Secretary of Tourism.
He also indicated that in addition to strengthening air connectivity from the state capital, the Ministry of Tourism is also working on promoting flights to the Copper Canyon Airport, located in Creel, with the aim of increasing tourist traffic to the Sierra Tarahumara and consolidating the region as one of the main tourist destinations in northern Mexico.
Gómez Gallegos emphasized that improving air connectivity is a key factor in boosting Chihuahua’s competitiveness, attracting a greater number of visitors, and generating economic benefits in various sectors related to tourism, commerce, and services.
