Nearly two years after El Mayo’s capture, the Attorney General’s Office still hasn’t summoned Rocha Moya… not even as a witness

Two years after drug trafficker Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada denounced alleged links between the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, and organized crime, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has not summoned him to testify, not even as a witness.

Sources within the FGR told Proceso that, to date, no official from the Sinaloa State Attorney General’s Office has been summoned to testify regarding the murder of Héctor Melesio Cué, the former rector of the state’s Autonomous University, which occurred on July 25, 2024.

This is despite the FGR’s own conclusion that the state Attorney General’s Office staged a cover-up to make it appear that the former rector had been murdered during a supposed robbery at a gas station, even presenting a video as evidence.

However, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) is currently reviewing the investigation files opened in 2021 for electoral crimes committed during that year’s election, in which Rocha Moya was elected, as well as for kidnapping, organized crime, and money laundering. These cases allege that the Sinaloa Cartel operated on behalf of the governor, who is currently on leave.

Although on May 1st, FGR spokesperson Ulises Lara reported that the United States’ request for provisional arrest for extradition purposes was not accompanied by evidence, and that the institution had therefore requested the information through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Trump administration has yet to provide any documentation.

Sources consulted stated that, despite the allegations in the United States against the governor and nine other individuals, none of those involved have left the country, nor have they been summoned to testify before the FGR.

A casi dos años de la captura de El Mayo, la FGR sigue sin citar a Rocha Moya... ni como testigo
