Residents of the northwest area of San Cristóbal de Las Casas demanded the construction of a new bridge in the El Vergel area, which collapsed in September 2025 and remains unrebuilt.
More than 100 residents protested, denouncing that, more than seven months after the collapse, they continue to use alternate routes that have increased travel times and affected the mobility of students, workers, and motorists.
The bridge was considered a strategic passage connecting various neighborhoods and communities, as well as linking to indigenous municipalities in the Highlands of Chiapas region.
Residents pointed out that the lack of intervention has complicated access to services and daily activities, especially for students who must travel longer distances.
Municipal authorities have stated that they cannot intervene directly in the reconstruction due to changes in regulations, although state support for the project has been requested.
The protesters warned that if there is no response in the coming days, they will go to Tuxtla Gutiérrez to demand direct attention from the state government.
