Port Captain Luis Antonio Barreiro Varela reported that he received his definitive dismissal from the Mexican Navy this Friday morning, following a citizen complaint filed against him after an inspection of a vessel.

He confirmed that he is under investigation, but denied that the reason was mismanagement.

He stated that the decision was a result of the procedure stemming from the complaint.

“I was dismissed because of a complaint filed against me by a banana farmer because I didn’t authorize his permit. That’s how it is in my industry; we sailors always have our bags packed,” he said.

Without providing further details about the reasons for his dismissal, he expressed his gratitude to Mazatlán, where he served for almost four years as head of the Regional Port Authority and actively implemented supervisory patrols of fishing and recreational vessels such as catamarans, yachts, and jet skis to prioritize maritime safety.

In addition, he promoted the first Sea Festival with a nautical parade through the bay and celebrations for seamen with recreational activities.
