Telcel and AT&T Report Millions in Losses Because People Refuse to Submit Their CURP (Mexican ID Number)
The numbers speak for themselves: AT&T has already lost 500,000 prepaid users in Mexico and seen its profits drop by more than half. Telcel has reported 1.2 million fewer new subscriptions in a single quarter, a steeper decline than that recorded during the pandemic.
Of more than 144 million active lines, only 30.2 million have been registered. This means that almost 80% of the country is refusing, and there are only 49 days left before the June 30 deadline.
The resistance to registration is massive, silent, and, above all, effective, and the reason is very simple: people don’t trust the system.
