So far this year, Mazatlán has recorded 66 cruise ship arrivals, generating an economic impact of 380 million pesos, stated Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez.
“Today, we are welcoming a cruise ship—the Navigator of the Seas—carrying over 3,900 passengers and generating 6.2 million pesos from this single vessel today alone. To date—throughout the year thus far—we have recorded 66 arrivals, representing 237,421 visitors and an economic impact of 380 million pesos,” Palacios Domínguez added, speaking to members of the media.
She also noted that the past three weekends have been highly positive for tourism and economic activity in Mazatlán; hotel occupancy rates have exceeded 80 percent, and various cultural, sporting, and artistic events have significantly elevated the destination’s profile on both the national and international stages.
Furthermore, she announced that on June 6, Mazatlán will host its annual Music Day (Día de la Música), an event expected to draw over 50,000 attendees. The celebration will feature nine simultaneous stages showcasing a variety of musical genres, and—for the first time—will include performances by local Mazatlán talent.
“Starting May 23, we will hold auditions for anyone wishing to showcase their talent on the stages we are setting up. Participants can range from children to seniors—there is no age limit to take part. This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision for Mazatlán: ensuring that culture is a right, not a privilege,” the Mayor emphasized. “I also want to mention that we are very pleased because the Day of Music ties in directly with an event we will soon be hosting here in Mazatlán: on August 30th, we will serve as the national host city for the ‘México Canta’ program. As part of this initiative, we will hold the semifinals right here at the Ángela Peralta Theater. It is a program specifically designed to foster social cohesion, to help mend the social fabric, and to ensure that regional Mexican music conveys positive messages that promote a culture of peace.”
He reiterated that, through the Day of Music, they are contributing to addressing the root causes of social problems by bringing the transformative power of culture to all the residents of Mazatlán.
On a different note, he announced that the State Government—acting through the Secretariat of Public Works—will collaborate with the Mazatlán City Council on infrastructure projects aimed at improving the city’s drainage system, funded through a federal initiative known as the Proagua program.
“We have four specific projects slated for the port of Mazatlán, all of which will contribute to the overall sanitation and rehabilitation of the city’s sewage network,” continued Palacios Domínguez. “We have many projects in the pipeline, and we will be sharing the details with you gradually, as there are simply too many currently underway.”
“We will provide further details very soon; however, these projects target specific locations that are in need of sanitary infrastructure repairs. We recognize that drainage improvements are consistently one of the top requests we receive from the public, and we are therefore committed to addressing this issue promptly and effectively.”
