Quinta Edén: 20 Years of Tabascan Pride

The iconic “La Joya del Edén” hotel celebrates two decades, firmly established as a symbol of identity for Tabasco, as recalled by its visionary founder, Miguel Cantón Zetina.

Upon reaching its twentieth anniversary, the Hotel Quinta Edén has solidified its status as “La Joya del Edén” (The Jewel of Eden)—a venue that, far beyond being mere tourism infrastructure, has evolved into an icon and a source of pride for the people of Tabasco. This sentiment was expressed by Don Miguel Cantón Zetina, Director General of Grupo Cantón, who recounted the origins of this project—conceived as a dream 23 years ago—which, following three years of construction, forever transformed the face of the Tabasco state capital.

The Genesis of a Dream

During the commemoration of this twentieth anniversary, Cantón Zetina reminisced about the project’s initial stages, when he shared his vision with architect Rogelio Jiménez Pons. “The first thing I must tell you is that my family and I have derived immense joy from this endeavor. I remember vividly dreaming up this project 23 years ago—the construction itself took three years—and sharing my desire with the architect: I wanted Tabasco to have a hotel of which it could be truly proud—a hotel to be loved, cherished, and embraced; something truly special for the people of Tabasco,” he stated.

A Symbol of Pride

That initial objective, the executive noted, has been amply fulfilled over the course of these two decades. He emphasized that the public’s response has served as the greatest accolade for the complex: “The people of Tabasco have never ceased to embrace it, to cherish it, and to take pride in their hotel. That is why we reach this 20-year milestone with joy, happiness, and a deep sense of pride that this place stands today as a symbol and an icon for Tabasco and its history.”

For Don Miguel, the impact of the Hotel Quinta Edén transcends the tourism and hospitality industries; it marked a pivotal turning point—a distinct “before and after”—in the development and identity of the region. “With the advent of this hotel, Villahermosa is transformed, and Tabasco is transformed,” he affirmed, highlighting how this project elevated the city’s standards and became a landmark reflecting the grandeur and warmth of its people.
