The Mexican Navy (Semar) reported that Navy personnel conducted an operation on the Tepic-Mazatlán highway, fifteen kilometers from the Rosario tollbooth (Sinaloa), where they were attacked with gunfire by individuals in the area.

The naval personnel returned fire and arrested thirteen individuals linked to the criminal group known as “Los Chapitos.”

The Navy did not specify whether there were any injuries.

With support from the Army, National Guard, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), and the Federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), they seized twelve rifles, 1,940 rounds of ammunition, 96 magazines, three improvised explosive devices, eleven bulletproof vests, and ten pairs of ballistic plates for vests.

Local reports indicate that the individuals had set up a drug checkpoint to stop vehicles as part of their criminal operations in the Sinaloa region, on the road to the state of Nayarit.
