The National Migration Institute (INM) has requested improvements to the facilities and spaces it occupies within the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, given the constant increase in the number of international passengers arriving at this tourist destination.
This request was made by Fidel Gaona Urbina, federal delegate of the National Migration Institute, during the presentation of the report from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport Advisory Council.
The official emphasized that the number of foreign nationals served by the INM at this airport is steadily increasing, a situation that necessitates strengthening operational and service conditions.
“Among other activities, we are responsible for registering the international entry of each foreign national who arrives here in Vallarta. Last year, we registered 26 million foreign nationals, which is why I urge the Pacific Airport Group not to neglect migration services; the better the facilities and services they can continue to provide, the better service we will be able to offer to tourists,” he stated.
Gaona Urbina emphasized that the immigration area represents the first point of contact many international visitors have with Mexico, making it essential to offer efficient service in adequate facilities.
“The tourists who arrive here are tired; they are people who come to explore, to be treated well. This is their first point of entry into the country, their first impression. If we don’t have the conditions to serve them as the Vallarta International Airport deserves, we will make a bad impression,” he stated.
He added that even though Puerto Vallarta has a modern and competitive terminal, the visitor experience can be negatively impacted if immigration services don’t operate optimally.
The federal delegate requested that the airport’s growth and modernization projects also include strengthening the areas designated for the National Institute of Migration.
He also highlighted that the average wait time for international passengers in Puerto Vallarta is currently below international standards.
“Currently, the international standard is to make a foreigner wait 40 minutes, and we have been below 20 minutes waiting time for a foreigner to be registered in this country,” he pointed out.
