This Sunday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inspected the expansion work on the Macuspana-Escárcega highway.
On her second day in the state of Tabasco, the president toured kilometer 53+600 of Federal Highway 186, which connects Tabasco with Campeche and the rest of southeastern Mexico.
The project includes widening the highway to four lanes, as well as constructing the Pozo Azul and Agua Blanca bridges in Tabasco, along with interchanges, U-turns, and rest stops.
Through social media, Sheinbaum Pardo stated that this will reduce travel times for commercial, tourist, and local transportation.
“We’re on the Macuspana-Escárcega highway, a 250-kilometer stretch. This section is the only one with two lanes for traveling from Mexico City to the Yucatán Peninsula, or even along the Gulf coast to Tamaulipas. We’re upgrading this two-lane highway to four lanes, so it will be a four-lane road from Mexico City to Mérida. It’s 250 kilometers. Last year we completed 16 kilometers, and we’re at 56 kilometers this year, and we’ll continue until we finish the entire stretch,” she explained.
During her visit, the president was accompanied by the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, and Governor Javier May Rodríguez.
