The alleged perpetrator of the homicide that took place at the Arboleda complex in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García has been detained in Durango; an arrest warrant for the crime, which occurred last April, had already been issued against him.

During a press conference, the Attorney General of Justice for Nuevo León, Javier Flores Saldívar, announced that the suspect has been identified as Carlos Eugenio “N.” He had previously been detained on May 19 in Durango in connection with a case of violent robbery.

The attack claimed the life of Juan Carlos García Núñez, a 26-year-old man originally from Sinaloa, who was allegedly working as a driver.

Authorities noted that the investigation remains open, as they are seeking to identify the mastermind behind the crime and clarify the potential involvement of additional individuals in the case.

The Deputy Attorney for Control and Development of Justice Administration indicated that there are several active lines of investigation and that, thus far, authorities have reason to believe that two or more individuals were involved in planning the attack. Furthermore, he revealed that some of those involved had previously stayed at an Airbnb located in the historic center of San Pedro.

The incident occurred on Roble Avenue, near Botánica Boulevard, within the Arboleda apartment and office complex.

According to the investigation, the assailant approached the victim—who was seated inside a Jeep SUV—on foot; he fired directly at him and subsequently fled in a vehicle that had already been identified through security camera footage.

Authorities explained that, thanks to the analysis of video surveillance footage and the use of biometric software, they were able to identify the alleged perpetrator, who had reportedly even been seen scouting the area where the homicide occurred days prior to the incident.

Additionally, the Attorney General reported that a San Pedro Municipal Police officer—who witnessed the attack while in the process of issuing a traffic citation—has been temporarily suspended pending the determination of his liability within the ongoing investigation.

Finally, it was reported that the Nuevo León Attorney General’s Office is working in coordination with authorities in Durango to proceed with the appropriate legal proceedings and formalize the transfer of the detainee, who is originally from the state of Michoacán.
