Durango is on track to become one of Mexico’s most relevant industrial and technological hubs. Mexican company Fermaca announced a series of strategic projects combining energy and digital infrastructure, with the goal of establishing the largest artificial intelligence ecosystem in Latin America in the state by 2032.
The investments include a 140-kilometer gas pipeline, a power plant with capacity of up to 1,200 MW, and the creation of Fermaca Digital City, a technology development with a projected capacity of 1,000 MW. Together, they represent one of the most ambitious private investments in infrastructure announced in Mexico in recent years.
The gas pipeline will supply natural gas to the Durango Logistics and Industrial Center (CLID) and to future productive developments in the region. The goal is to strengthen the state’s competitiveness and create conditions to attract new industries and advanced manufacturing projects.
The power plant, with capacity of up to 1,200 MW, considered one of the largest additions to generation capacity promoted by the private sector in decades, will provide reliable and efficient energy to support Durango’s economic and technological growth.
The energy infrastructure will serve as the foundation for the development of Fermaca Digital City, an ecosystem designed to house hyperscale data centers, artificial intelligence infrastructure, cloud services, and digital innovation. With a projected capacity of 1,000 MW, it is positioned to become the largest artificial intelligence ecosystem in Latin America.
The project will be developed in stages as global demand for digital infrastructure and computing capacity evolves, with the goal of reaching its maximum capacity by 2032.
Fermaca highlighted that these projects will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, strengthen regional production chains, and promote the development of specialized talent in engineering, energy, technology, and data science.
The company said the projects will be carried out under strict safety and sustainability standards, replacing higher-emission fuels and contributing to cleaner and more competitive energy operations.
The investments align with the national economic development and industrial relocation strategy promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, as well as by Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal. Cooperation between government and the private sector will be key to transforming Durango into a hub for energy, advanced industry, and artificial intelligence capable of attracting global investment and strengthening Mexico’s position in the digital economy.
With the gas pipeline, power plant, and Fermaca Digital City, Durango could take a historic leap toward the economy of the future. Fermaca’s integrated vision goes beyond infrastructure, focusing on innovation, employment, and well-being for future generations.
