Three active-duty municipal police officers—identified as Dionisio “N.,” Montiel “N.,” and Guillén “N.”—have been detained and remain in custody at the municipal jail in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, while they are investigated for alleged crimes including torture, extortion, and the fabrication of criminal charges.
The officers served as bodyguards for “Zafiro,” the current Director of the local Preventive Police, and remained on active duty at the time they were taken into custody by ministerial authorities.
Although various accounts regarding the case are circulating—ranging from a summons to appear before the Prosecutor’s Office to a special operation launched specifically to apprehend them—the only fact confirmed thus far is that the three officers have ended up incarcerated and under investigation.
According to information obtained from various sources, case files exist detailing alleged abuses committed by the officers during several operations conducted in the area.
Unofficially, lines of investigation point to possible ties to—and the provision of protection for—criminal cells operating in Quintana Roo, including groups linked to the Caborca Cartel; however, this information has not been officially confirmed by authorities.
The case has generated tension within the police force due to the detainees’ close ties to one of the top commanders within the Playa del Carmen Secretariat of Citizen Security.
As of now, there is no detailed official information regarding the definitive charges against the detained officers or their current legal status.
