Durango business owners urge that local suppliers be hired first

The Business Coordinating Council (CCE) held a meeting with state legislators as part of the analysis of the new Economic Development Law for the State of Durango.

The president of the organization, Raúl Montelongo Nevárez, reported that among the main topics discussed was strengthening local suppliers in projects outside the state, as well as addressing problems currently affecting the business sector, such as the growth of the informal economy.

“We want to continue attracting investment to Durango, to continue promoting Durango as a suitable state for investment, but we want local businesses to be supported first, because we are the ones who have been here for a long time, the ones who have invested in Durango to varying degrees, from small to medium to large companies.”

“The important thing is that we have the right conditions so that these local businesses continue to grow, continue to develop, and continue to generate employment in our state,” he stated.

In this regard, he explained that the goal is to prioritize hiring local businesses. “Foreign companies that are to receive tax benefits should first contract with local suppliers or service providers. If it can be demonstrated that the local service or supplier is unavailable in Durango, then they can bring it in from elsewhere, but local businesses must always be the priority,” he emphasized.

He indicated that during the meeting, each organization presented the specific needs of its sector, with the goal of ensuring that the new legislation truly addresses Durango’s economic conditions.

The importance of having mechanisms and tools in place to ensure the proper application of the laws was also raised, noting that regulations such as the Real Estate Law and the Third-Party Liability Law, although already approved, have not been fully implemented in practice.
