Mexico City traffic chaos: Blockades on major streets and avenues today, May 31

The streets of Mexico City’s Historic Center are once again in complete chaos due to protesters blocking major thoroughfares this Sunday, May 31.

The road closures are primarily affecting streets near the Angel of Independence, the Monument to the Revolution, and the Zócalo. Due to the marches, Metrobús service has been suspended at several stations on lines 1 and 7.

Where in Mexico City are there road closures today, Sunday, May 31?

Hidalgo Avenue is closed from Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas, so drivers should use Arcos de Belén as an alternative route.

There is a closure on the westbound side of Paseo de la Reforma Avenue at the intersection with Eje 1 Poniente. Drivers can use the following alternative routes:

Insurgentes Avenue
Chapultepec Avenue

There is also a road closure on Morelos Avenue from Eje 1 Poniente towards Paseo de la Reforma Avenue. Alternative routes for drivers are:

Which Metrobús stations are closed?

The Metrobús system has announced that due to blockades by protesters, service is operating as follows:

Line 1

Service is available from Indios Verdes to Buenavista and from El Caminero to Insurgentes.
Service is not available from El Chopo to Hamburgo and from Indios Verdes to Santa Cruz Atoyac.

Line 7

Service is available from Indios Verdes to Hospital Infantil La Villa-Glorieta Violeta, as well as the Campo Marte and Alameda-El Ángel stations.
Service is not available from Hidalgo to El Ahuehuete.
