A tunnel-like excavation, allegedly used for drug trafficking activities, approximately 265 meters long and 6.30 meters deep, was located in Tijuana, Baja California, as a result of intelligence work by agents of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).

The autonomous agency, headed by Ernestina Godoy Ramos, reported that the structure has lighting and ventilation, as well as an electronic sliding mechanism that allows passage in both directions, from Mexico to the United States.

It was indicated that this construction was located thanks to technical support and coordinated work with the Security Cabinet of the Mexican Government, as part of the development of an investigation and a search warrant for a residence in the Nueva Tijuana neighborhood, for alleged violations of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives and the General Health Law.

Investigations established that the raided property was allegedly used as a storage, logistics, and trafficking center for weapons, explosives, and illicit substances, after authorities located cartridges, suspected methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as cell phones and various documents.

Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) determined that the tunnel likely connects to a well-known street in San Diego, California.

The FGR emphasized that this operation represents a direct blow to the operation, transport routes, and logistical schemes used for drug trafficking, strengthening lines of investigation and institutional capabilities to combat criminal organizations dedicated to these types of illicit activities.

The evidence and the property were placed under the custody of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) in Baja California to continue the ongoing investigation.
