Thousands of teachers belonging to Section 22 of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) marched in the city of Oaxaca to begin the coordinator’s nationwide work stoppage. César Zurita, the section’s organizing secretary, accused the federal government of failing to engage in dialogue with Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, stating that she has not met with the CNTE representatives, only sending low-level officials.
He indicated that the start of Monday’s mobilization, in which the coordinator’s contingents began demonstrations in the nation’s capital, is due to the lack of response from the federal government, particularly regarding the repeal of the 2007 reform to the ISSSTE law and the Peña Nieto-AMLO education reform.
“Dialogue with her is closed,” the teacher affirmed when asked if there had been any attempt to establish a dialogue with Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum. However, a high-level meeting will be requested to address the demands of the CNTE (National Coordinator of Education Workers).
Regarding the boycott of the FIFA World Cup, he indicated that, for the time being, this activity remains part of the action plan; however, everything will depend on the level of response from the federal government.
