The Secretary of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato, Lupita Robles León, presented the program for the 2026 Guanajuato Wine Harvest Festival in Mexico City and announced that San Miguel de Allende will host the “Gala of Galas” of the Brussels World Wine Competition, an international event that will bring together representatives from more than 55 countries.
At the presentation, held on behalf of Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, the official acknowledged the work of producers, business owners, and tourism sector stakeholders who have contributed to positioning Guanajuato as one of the most dynamic wine regions in the country.
“San Miguel de Allende will be celebrating on November 29 and 30. Representatives from more than 55 countries will be present, receiving these awards for the first time. This is not just an event; it is a recognition of the trajectory, the work, the professionalism, and the quality that we have achieved together in Guanajuato,” she emphasized.
The Secretary recalled that Guanajuato hosted the same event in 2024, becoming the first location outside of Europe and Asia, which strengthened the state’s international standing as a benchmark for Mexican wine.
“Today we celebrate much more than a schedule of events; we celebrate the result of years of work that have allowed Guanajuato to consolidate itself as one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing wine regions in Mexico,” she stated.
Robles León pointed out that the grape harvest festivals represent an activity that generates employment, boosts the regional economy, and strengthens the communities where wine production takes place. She also highlighted that wine tourism has become one of the state’s main tourist attractions.
“The grape harvest festivals are much more than a party; they are the celebration of the harvest, the moment when a year’s worth of effort finds its finest expression. They are an opportunity to experience wine from its origin, among vineyards, barrels, and landscapes that are part of the identity of the Valley of Independence,” she expressed.
The secretary highlighted that Guanajuato currently ranks fourth nationally in wine production and fifth in grape production. She detailed that the state has 82 projects related to the wine industry, including vineyards, wineries, and wineries, 27 of which already offer wine tourism experiences.
She also reported that the state boasts more than 165 wine labels, produces over 1.6 million bottles annually, has more than 600 hectares planted, and generates over 1,700 tons of grapes each year.
“Behind these figures lies investment, innovation, talent, and a shared vision among producers, municipalities, and the government to promote an activity that is now one of Guanajuato’s greatest tourism assets,” she stated.
The state official also emphasized the international recognition that Guanajuato wines have received. She noted that the state has accumulated 606 medals in specialized competitions and that in 2026 alone, through May, it had already won 62 medals in international events.
Regarding the 2026 Guanajuato Wine Harvest Festival, the secretary announced that 15 celebrations will take place between August 1 and October 18 in municipalities such as Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel de Allende, San Felipe, and Silao. The activities will include vineyard tours, tastings, regional cuisine, cultural events, and wine tourism experiences.
