Who really runs Mexico City? A civilian woman was caught on video illegally controlling access to the streets around the Zócalo, demanding identification as if she were an official. Even worse, this same woman is known for arriving with thugs to steal banners from peaceful protesters. When reporters confronted the police, the officers shrugged, saying they were sent there and didn’t know who. And when they asked her, she cynically replied that she was there alone because she had nothing to do at home. A complete mockery of the citizens! Since when does a civilian have the power to trample on the constitutional right to free movement? The Mayor’s Office owes us an urgent explanation. While many dare to discredit teachers by calling them sellouts, they applaud these kinds of dictatorial abuses led by civilians without badges. No one should be harassed by people without legal authority. This isn’t security; it’s a hijacking of public space that directly violates the constitution and our most basic rights.
