An accident during a car show in Nuevo Ideal, Durango, reportedly left nine people, including three minors, injured after being struck by a man driving a pickup truck.
The accident allegedly occurred when the driver was performing the “Trompito” stunt, where the vehicle spins at high speed. He reportedly lost control and ran over several spectators.
Another man who was in the vehicle was also injured. The incident happened Sunday night on Felipe el Pescador Boulevard in the municipality of Nuevo Ideal, Durango, where pedestrians were hit by the vehicle, which the driver lost control of.
A video circulating on social media shows the scene descending into chaos as injured people lay on the pavement, clutching their wounds. Other spectators reportedly rushed toward the truck, apparently to intimidate the driver.
Following the accident report, personnel from the Municipal Traffic and Public Safety Department arrived at the scene. They requested medical assistance and took custody of the alleged driver responsible for the accident, who was detained.
He was identified as 35-year-old Manuel, a resident of the Magdalena subdivision, who was driving a black Ford F150 pickup truck with license plates from the state of Durango.
Initially, Red Cross paramedics, with support from other rescue agencies, provided care to the injured, who were then taken to the Municipal General Hospital.
It wasn’t until Monday morning that the municipal government of Nuevo Ideal, through Mayor Zaira Quiñónez’s social media accounts, reported that two people were injured.
“Regarding the unfortunate incident that occurred outside the Sports Complex in our municipality, I inform the public that two injured people are being treated in the city of Durango and are under observation,” the post read.
Furthermore, it was confirmed that the person allegedly responsible for the injuries is now in the custody of the Durango State Attorney General’s Office.
“The alleged perpetrator has also been detained and is being held at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office so that they may take appropriate action, determine responsibility, and apply the law.”
It should be noted that following the alleged accusations, the organization ‘Ducks Truck’s and Cars’ completely disassociated itself from the events that occurred at the ‘Nuevo Ideal Car Fest,’ emphasizing its total absence and lack of involvement in the organization.
